ROB MATHES HOLIDAY CONCERT 2023 - Dec 15 & 16 & 17

Hello wondrous humans visiting this repository of my life!

Get tickets for the 2023 Rob Mathes Holiday Concert-->https://www.artscenter.org/events/the-rob-mathes-holiday-concert/ or call 914-251-6200.

The Rob Mathes Holiday Concert is just around the corner!

Because of the sell outs last year, we added a Sunday Matinee, which is great news. The concert is such a joy for us. To get another crack at that music is a gift. The band will be there in force, Will Lee on Bass and Billy Masters and crew, the horn section, the choir. This year is the 30th year. The 30th YEAR!!!!! Wow!

Rabbi Mark Golub, who single handedly turned the concert into a holiday concert by coming every year and screaming from the rafters for us to play LONGER and MORE, passed away early in 2023. We are therefore dedicating this years concerts to him and will play the strongest of the songs I wrote for him: Light in The Window and Too Many Stars, written for my daughter Emma, and of course Strayhorn’s Dreidel. I will offer up an exegesis on how we merged Billy Strayhorn/Duke Ellington with “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, I made it out of clay.” We do swing the hell out of that with harmonies the great Gil Evans wouldn’t shudder at.

Please join us. Any seat in the PepsiCo Theater at SUNY/Purchase College is great. It only seats around 700 and change. I have friends that purposely pick the balcony!

We don’t take the concert for granted nor your continued support.

There was a funny Facebook post, that I am sure the post-er did not want me to read. It went like this: “I know the Rob thing can be a little wacky, but let’s go see Billy Masters play!” If that is the reason you come, Billy or D-Train or Vaneese Thomas, or the best horn section on the planet, GREAT! To heck with me, come for them! The company of players is insane. It will be quite an evening of music.

Below is an extract from the press release. See you there!

Rob Mathes Celebrates 30 Years of Holiday Concerts with Three Special Shows at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College

Concerts December 15, 16 & 17 — Honor Rabbi Mark Golub, Long-Time Concert-Goer, and Food Rescue

PURCHASE, N.Y., October 30, 2023 — The Rob Mathes Holiday Concert, a holiday tradition for so many, is celebrating an amazing 30 years of performing its annual holiday extravaganza this year with three concerts at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College. Concerts are Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16, at 8:00 p.m., and a special matinee performance on Sunday, December 17, at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available at artscenter.org, and VIP seating in the first two rows of the orchestra are available through the concert’s nonprofit beneficiary, Food Rescue US - Fairfield County at bit.ly/3PTsUSF or foodrescue.us/site/food-rescue-us-fairfield-county/.

Rob Mathes is an Emmy award-winning and Grammy-nominated musician who is a Greenwich, Connecticut resident. Rob is typically the genius behind the curtain, producing albums, orchestrating, and being a sought-after music director. However, his annual holiday concert, a cherished holiday tradition in the New York City/Connecticut area for 30 years, is when he shines on center stage, much to the joy of his ardent fans.

This year's concerts hold a special place in Rob's heart. They are dedicated to Rabbi Mark Golub, a long-time supporter and cherished fan of the concerts who sadly passed away this year from cancer. Rabbi Golub's passion and enthusiasm for the concerts have left an indelible mark with his friendship and guidance to Rob over the years, and also inspired several Hanukkah-themed songs performed at the annual Holiday Concert that have become audience favorites.

BY THE WAY - certain songs that are frequently performed at Rob's holiday concerts have never been widely available, UNTIL NOW. Videos of a few favorites from the holiday shows, in their original recorded versions, are now available for listening on YouTube:
